Not A Good Weekend For Team Husky!

Hi everyone, this is Aleeya ~ Team Husky's Mom

Good news and bad news from the ophthalmologist about Prince's eyes. What he has isn't PRA or anything genetically linked which means Kodiak and his brothers are in the clear. The bad news is that my beautiful boy has been keeping a rather big secret from us ~ he is almost blind! Prince has been diagnosed with Post Inflammatory Retinal Degeneration caused by Chorioretininis. This is most likely a result of a trauma or infection he had when he was very young, prior to me getting him. I knew his night and peripheral vision wasn't very good but had no idea he couldn't see much during the day time. He scored each of Prince's eyes out of 10 (10 being perfect vision). His right eye is a 1 and his left eye is a 2-3. He also has a small cataract on his right eye but the Ophthalmologist is hoping this won't get any worse. I can't believe my boy's vision is so poor now ~ you would not know in light conditions, he gets around so well! He must be taking full advantage of the little vision he has, he's such a clever boy:)

The vet we got a second opinion from about Prince's lump recommended a biopsy with possible removal of lump. She wasn't comfortable with the position of the lump as it lies right alongside his spine which could cause a whole other set of problems. Because we were at a vet out of town it wasn't practical for them to perform the surgery that afternoon, as travelling straight after the op wouldn't have been in Prince's best interest. We have an appointment with a local vet tomorrow and Prince will have surgery later this week so we will keep you all posted.

Sesuk went for her scan and we discovered she is not in pup which of course was very disappointing:( A lot of time and expense had gone into the AI and we were so hoping to get one litter from her but it looks like it wasn't meant to be.

All in all it was a pretty crappy weekend in our house! I just hope we get good news about Prince's lump, that would be so great and would definitely put a smile on my face.

Thanks for all the Sibe Vibes and wishes and please keep them coming!!!

Aleeya

P.S. ~ Prince (and the rest of the pups) had a yummy birthday tea last night - their Eukanuba was dressed up with fresh salmon tails (Prince's favorite and our usual canine birthday special dinner). It was all gobbled up very quickly!

Khyra told me about Prince. I'm so sorry about his vision! Poor boy. At least he doesn't seem too bothered by it. I am hoping for good news on the lump too. I will purr my hardest for you.

Darn, that was not a good weekend. But blind dogs can do very well and it sound like Prince knows what he is doing. That lump has been a concern to you for a while, it is probably a good idea to have it removed. We know you had your heart set on that litter but things happen for a reason. We are sending lots and lots of sibe vibes and prayers that things go very well with the surgery. Keep us updated.

Hugs, the OP Pack and Kathie

Paws crossed fur some better news this week fur sweet Prince. Its amazing how well they compensate fur things like vision. Our Sherman had very little vision left too, but most of the time, you couldn't even tell his vision was so impaired either. We'll continue to send sibe vibes.
